April Hours: 10 hours      Total Hours: 22 hours        As the weather starts to get warm and humid, we know it's not only the start of summer, but also the end of this school year. A year ago this day I was still indecisive of where I will end up in the next few months of my life, and now we are already about to finish the program! It has been a great experience studying at Tulane SOM department of pharmacology, and I would make the same decision again if I could go back in time.      This month I had been busy working in the lab, studying for the final exams, and preparing for presentation and job interviews. Luckily all of them went smoothly, and I will be starting to work in a commercial diagnostic lab in New Jersey in June following graduation.      For this month's community service, I volunteered at the American Chinese Association for Cancer Research following the American Association for Cancer Research meeting that was held in New Orleans. I helped with welcoming gues

March Service Hour: 2 hours Total service hour: 12 hours     March flew by so fast I didn't realize it was March yet and it's already almost April. During this month, I  had a few presentation assignments, and we had 3 exams at the same time. Time management became a big issue that started to show for me. I only had to go into lab for my part time job twice this month due to the significantly decreased positive covid cases, but I still found many days where I haven't finished much work and the day had already passed. I feel very relieved after the 3 exams and 2 presentation as I will only have 1 presentation left to do, and 2 more exams until we graduate.     This month I volunteered for a senior kitchen back in Seattle to help design their weekly menu, and I attached a photo of one of their meals.      My goal for April is to incorporate more MCAT studying time in addition to studying for the shelf exam.

February service hours: 4 hours Total hours: 10 hours        This month flew by so fast with 2 shorter modules than the other ones, with a lot of study days. I kept myself very busy the first half of the month rotating between classes, lab, and home. On top of these, I also tried and threw in a little bit of MCAT CARS passage practices. However, it felt really hard to make it a habit doing MCAT practices everyday or regularly besides school. After typing these words I realized it is not the first time I'm writing about this hardship in my blog, so it's been giving some anxiety lately.        Another change I've made this month is to deleted most of the social media apps on my phone, and it gave me more time to focus what's on the present instead of scrolling down people's posts that are not relevant to what I need to focus now.      I had less time to volunteer for code for San Jose this month, also there were less new volunteers that needed onboarding, I approxima

Blue Capsule

Blue Capsule - January         It's been a really cold month of wearing my puffer jacket. Kind of hard to believe it's 2022 already, and I'm still writing 2021 and having to cross it off every time. This month we witnessed some drastic changes in terms of the confirmed covid cases. I was lucky enough to be learning from and working with an outstanding pathologist at Tulane to perform Next Generation Sequencing for positive covid samples. It was hard to balance the time I spent in lab and school work because some days I spent 6 hours a day right after classes, and when I got home it's almost bedtime but I haven't eaten dinner. My boss is a dedicated and meticulous pathologist, and he would stay in lab until very late at night just to check everything is done without any mistakes, sometimes all he eats in a day is just a handful of nuts because he focuses on his work so much he forgot what hungry feels like. I couldn't help but wonder, without people like him, we.

December hours: 12 Total hours fall semester: 19     What an incredible semester we had! Half way through this program, I feel like I really made the right decision by coming to here. So far I'm enjoying the weather, culture, food, and people here in New Orleans. Secondly, it did not take awhile for me to fall in love with Tulane already. I got to know more outstanding faculty and staff from Tulane SOM through some networking events throughout these months, and they all had such great stories to tell and knowledge to pass on. I learned more about the med school curriculum and teaching style, saw how great the Murphy building is, and so much more...     I greatly enjoyed the content of our classes, especially Med Pharm. I feel like I'm learning more than what I did in the past 4 years of undergrad already! Although learning so much more about different types of diseases has left me a lot of things to think deeper behind, and sigh for how small humans are compared to the univer

November hours: 2hr        This month flew by so fast that it's already the last day of November and I still feel like this month just began. The exam right before the Thanksgiving break was my worst performance so far. I know I studied less and was very distracted due to the fact that I was going to visit a childhood friend in Philly. With only 2 weeks left in this semester, I really need to get back on track and grind for this last exam to save my grades a bit.      For service this month, thanks to Uma in our class, she led us to make some Thanksgiving cards for children, and I spent 2 hours making one with a sunflower design. It was a really great experience for me since it's been years I put my hands on some arts and crafts. I hope the children liked our cards made with love. I will also try to do more service in December before the exam.      I had a great Thanksgiving trip driving from New York all the way to D.C in 4 days, then spending my last day in Philly. There

This month was quite intense that I am having a hard time balancing school and MCAT prep. I didn’t do as well as I thought on the two PR exams we had this month. At the same time my sleep schedule is kind of messed up, and I haven’t been to the gym in a month or so. So I really want to take some efforts to put everything back on track in November.     It was very nice that I got to know a few of awesome classmates this month as well. Having a study buddy definitely helped a lot in my opinion in that when there’s someone around I wouldn’t be browsing on my phone for hours instead of actually studying, and that I could always ask if there’s something I don’t understand, and I think this communication is beneficial for both of us. I also feel the joy of sharing life with friends, and getting to know their stories…Storytelling really is a fundamental part of being a human.     As for service, Crystal and I went to the second harvest food bank for their 3-hour community kitchen sh
